Who we are

Chomparoo (the app and chomparoo.app) is made by Tobias Hedegaard Eriksen, an independent developer in Denmark, who is the data controller for this policy. Contact: help@chomparoo.app.

What stays on your device

Your game progress (stars, best scores, badges, streak, daily results, hint count and settings) is saved on your iPhone. If you use iCloud, the game also keeps a copy in your own iCloud account (iCloud key-value storage) so it follows you to your other devices and a new phone. This data is stored by Apple under your Apple ID; we cannot see it.

Reminders (daily puzzle, new worlds and events) are local notifications: they are scheduled on your iPhone and no data is sent anywhere. You can turn them off in the game's settings or in iOS Settings.

Services that process data

Apple (App Store, Game Center, iCloud)

Apple processes your purchases and payments; we never see your payment details. If you use Game Center, your daily puzzle score (first try) and achievements are sent to Game Center, and your Game Center nickname is visible to other players on the daily leaderboard. If you choose to share analytics with app developers in iOS Settings, Apple may give us anonymous crash and usage reports. See Apple's privacy policy.

RevenueCat (purchases)

RevenueCat manages in-app purchases and subscriptions for us: it checks your App Store receipts with Apple so purchases can be restored and Chomp+ cannot be faked. It receives an anonymous app user ID, your purchase history and basic device information (such as the iOS version, app version, country and currency). It does not receive your name or e-mail. Google AdMob (ads)

The free version shows ads: optional reward videos (you choose to watch one for a hint or to double a gift) and an occasional ad between levels. Google AdMob receives data to show, limit and measure ads and to prevent fraud, such as your IP address, approximate location (from the IP address), device type and settings, and how you interact with ads. Your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) is only used if you allow tracking in Apple's prompt.

• In the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland, Google's consent form asks for your choices before any personalised ads are shown. If you do not consent, you only get limited, non-personalised ads, and the game works the same.
• You can change your choice at any time in the game under Settings › Privacy choices, and tracking in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.
• With Remove ads, the Starter pack or Chomp+, there are no ads between levels; reward videos stay available if you want them.

Game statistics (analytics)

To keep the game working and fair, the app sends anonymous game statistics to PostHog, hosted in the EU (Frankfurt). They show us if the app crashes or a level is broken, how far players get, and which levels are too hard or too easy.

• What is sent: game events such as starting, winning or losing a level (with its stars, score, moves and time), using a hint or an item, finishing a daily puzzle, opening a world, purchases made (product only, never payment details) and errors; plus the app version, iOS version, device model, language and country (worked out from the IP address, which is then discarded).
• How it is identified: by a random ID made on your phone when the game is first opened. It is not your name, Apple ID, e-mail or advertising identifier, it is not shared with advertisers and it is not combined with data from other apps. Deleting the app deletes the ID.
• Your choice: you can turn statistics off at any time in the game under Settings › Privacy choices; nothing is sent after that.
• Statistics are kept for at most 2 years and are only used to improve Chomparoo.

Legal basis (GDPR)

• Purchases and restoring them: to provide what you bought (contract).
• Personalised ads and tracking: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
• Non-personalised ads, fraud prevention and keeping the app working: our legitimate interest in offering the game for free.
• Anonymous game statistics: our legitimate interest in finding errors and making the levels fair; you can turn them off at any time.

Children

Chomparoo is suitable for all ages but is not directed at children under 13 and is not in the App Store's Kids category. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided data, contact us and we will help remove it.

How long data is kept

Data on your iPhone and in your iCloud stays until you delete the app or its iCloud data. RevenueCat keeps purchase records as long as needed to provide and restore purchases and to meet accounting obligations. Game statistics are deleted after at most 2 years. Google keeps ad data according to its own policies.

Your rights and deleting your data

You have the right to access, correct, delete and move your data, and to object to or restrict its use. To delete your progress, delete the app and remove its iCloud data (iOS Settings › your name › iCloud › Manage storage). To have your purchase records deleted at RevenueCat, e-mail us; purchases you delete can no longer be restored. You can reset your advertising identifier in iOS Settings and turn off game statistics in the game. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Danish Data Protection Agency (Datatilsynet) or your local authority.

This website

chomparoo.app sets no cookies and uses no analytics or trackers. It is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes your IP address to deliver the pages and protect them against attacks. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when the page loads.

If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with a new date. Important changes are also mentioned in the app's update notes.
